Men as Sex Objects~Bruce Springsteen

Guh! There is nothing more sexy than an intelligent man...of course, when he also looks and sings this good...we are so done for, ain't we girls?

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S COMMENTS FROM THE STAGE AT PHILADELPHIA'S VOTE FOR CHANGE RALLY
October 4, 2008

"Hello Philly,

"I am glad to be here today for this voter registration drive and for Barack Obama, the next President of the United States.

"I've spent 35 years writing about America, its people, and the meaning of the American Promise. The Promise that was handed down to us, right here in this city from our founding fathers, with one instruction: Do your best to make these things real. Opportunity, equality, social and economic justice, a fair shake for all of our citizens, the American idea, as a positive influence, around the world for a more just and peaceful existence. These are the things that give our lives hope, shape, and meaning. They are the ties that bind us together and give us faith in our contract with one another.

"I've spent most of my creative life measuring the distance between that American promise and American reality. For many Americans, who are today losing their jobs, their homes, seeing their retirement funds disappear, who have no healthcare, or who have been abandoned in our inner cities. The distance between that promise and that reality has never been greater or more painful.

"I believe Senator Obama has taken the measure of that distance in his own life and in his work. I believe he understands, in his heart, the cost of that distance, in blood and suffering, in the lives of everyday Americans. I believe as president, he would work to restore that promise to so many of our fellow citizens who have justifiably lost faith in its meaning. After the disastrous administration of the past 8 years, we need someone to lead us in an American reclamation project. In my job, I travel the world, and occasionally play big stadiums, just like Senator Obama. I've continued to find, wherever I go, America remains a repository of people's hopes, possibilities, and desires, and that despite the terrible erosion to our standing around the world, accomplished by our recent administration, we remain, for many, a house of dreams. One thousand George Bushes and one thousand Dick Cheneys will never be able to tear that house down.

"They will, however, be leaving office, dropping the national tragedies of Katrina, Iraq, and our financial crisis in our laps. Our sacred house of dreams has been abused, looted, and left in a terrible state of disrepair. It needs care; it needs saving, it needs defending against those who would sell it down the river for power or a quick buck. It needs strong arms, hearts, and minds. It needs someone with Senator Obama's understanding, temperateness, deliberativeness, maturity, compassion, toughness, and faith, to help us rebuild our house once again. But most importantly, it needs us. You and me. To build that house with the generosity that is at the heart of the American spirit. A house that is truer and big enough to contain the hopes and dreams of all of our fellow citizens. That is where our future lies. We will rise or fall as a people by our ability to accomplish this task. Now I don't know about you, but I want that dream back, I want my America back, I want my country back.

"So now is the time to stand with Barack Obama and Joe Biden, roll up our sleeves, and come on up for the rising."

Democracy?

Amidst all the mud-slinging,name calling, sign stealing, etc...does anyone remember that a democracy is built on respecting the other persons right to their own opinion? Free speech, it is a corner stone of the Constitution, but seldom allowed these days it seems.

A Living Will...

I, Kate, being of sound mind and body, do not wish to be kept alive indefinitely by artificial means. Under no circumstances should my fate be put in the hands of pinhead politicians who couldn't pass ninth-grade biology if their lives depended on it, or lawyers / doctors interested in simply running up the bills. If a reasonable amount of time passes and I fail to ask for at least one of the following:

Glass of wine
chocolate
Margarita
chocolate
Martini
Cold Beer
chocolate
Chicken fried steak
cream gravy
chocolate
Mexican food
chocolate
French fries
chocolate
Pizza
chocolate
ice cream
cup of tea
chocolate
Chocolate
Sex
Chocolate

It should be presumed that I won't ever get better. When such a determination is reached, I hereby instruct my appointed person and attending physicians to pull the plug, reel in the tubes, let the 'fat lady sing,' and call it a day!

Flotsam & Jetsam

We got an offer on my dad’s house…we filed a counter offer…and it was accepted! Woohoo!!!!!! Finally, I will have closure on this. The place was not financable so it was a cash offer, which means a quick closing…so by Halloween. Yippee!!!!!!!!

I am getting acclimated back into Payroll…if you can call it that. I come home with a headache most nights. I am still looking for other work within the company…I just do not want to deal with the stress of payroll anymore.

I have been working on the Amazon and Café Press stores for SMTR…both are up and running now and I think they’ve even had some orders. Café Press is stumping me on a couple of things…but I shall prevail!

This weekend I will be camping with Pirates…we take over Sand Island during the yearly Yacht Clubs annual Spook Cruise…this will be our 4th year. So I am taking Friday off and will be over there early enough to help others get set up as well as doing a wee bit of partying my own self.

I have started a blog for our Pirate Group ‘Pirates of Portlandia’…so that those outside of the group can share in the fun. The group is limited to those who live within one day’s sail of Portland, Oregon, but we have quite a few folk who want to keep up with what is going on with the Pirate community. PDX Pirate calendar is rather impersonal and doesn’t always have up to date information.

View from my bed...

I haven't been around a whole lot lately...well, I have been lurking a bit. I just haven't been saying alot. There is a lot of fear and anger out and about on the web these days...lot's of name calling, racial slurs, bigotry and other social injustices going around. And not only by our elected officials...it saddens me greatly to see how we fall upon one another...taking sides, instead of standing together.

America was and still is a good dream. America is something to be proud of...we are the melting pot of the world, some of our families have been here longer than others, but they all came here with a dream of being free. Free to be who we were without persecution, despite our race, our religion, our loves. Some of my ancestors were cleared from their place in the highlands of Scotland, they came to the Pacific NW with others who found the wet, green, wild places here to be similar to that which they had lost. But they came hoping to be free to keep their land, their families, and their beliefs. And you can find similar stories if you go far enough back in every American's family...

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

So why now do we have folk ranting about this 'christian' nation? We are a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Pagans, Atheists and more. We are Americans, we are supposed to be the example of brotherhood, of understanding. Our Founding Fathers were deists and masons, not christians, and they strove and fought for a place for all to be free. "of the People, For the People, By the People" means ALL People...not just those of the 'right' religion, the 'right' color, or with the 'right' bank account.

A whole lot of other folk have said it so much better than I can...but, I just want to live free and be myself, along with my neighbor of what ever race, religion, sex or political leaning. And I refuse to let fear or hate or anger rule my life. My destiny is in my own hands and I choose what I will do and what I will feel and what I will think. And that is all I think any one of us want, and as Americans, we can give that to each other...and we can do that no matter who is in office and in any type of economy, because that is not something that has a price tag or a political slant...how about a wee drop of respect? It don't cost much, you don't have to convert nobody, nor use a whole lot of energy...just smile and let it go. Trust that they are as grown up as you are and will do the same.
